Hirscher grabs his first top runner

On the slopes, Marcel Hirscher was one of the best skiers there ever was. For many, he is even the best ever. After the end of his career, the Salzburg native launched his own ski brand, namely “Van Deer”. These skis should one day win World Cup races. The eight-time overall World Cup winner presented his first protégé in mid-April, but the Briton Charlie Raposo is only known to insiders. Now the Hirscher racing team gets its first prominent name.

In the future, Norwegian Timon Haugan will be traveling with the new ski brand. The 25-year-old is a talented slalom specialist who also competes in giant slalom. He has already completed 63 World Cup races, finishing second on the podium in Chamonix in February 2020. Last season he made it into the top 15 six times, but the highlight came at the Olympic Games, where he won the bronze medal in the team event.

“I want to get back on the podium – once you’re up there, you don’t want to give up that feeling,” says Haugan about his goals with “Van Deer”. Meanwhile, Hirscher says: “I noticed Timon as an extremely talented skier during my active days. He definitely has the potential to reach the podium in both disciplines, giant slalom and slalom. I think it's great to welcome an 'Attacking Viking' into the Van Deer family. Timon carries the spirit of the Norwegians within him and, as we know, he can move mountains.” So it will be interesting to see how the new ski brand does in the World Cup.
