Hirscher triumphs – Tonetti in the top ten

Heavy snow, poor visibility and a rough slope characterized the first round of the World Cup giant slalom in Val d'Isère, France. The conditions got better in the second run. Half-time leader Marcel Hirscher didn't let the victory be taken away from him and triumphed confidently after an impressive performance.

Hirscher went into the second run with a lead of 0,71 seconds and performed flawlessly in the now easier conditions. He even extended his lead. In the end, Hirscher won by 1,18 seconds ahead of second-placed Norwegian Henrik Kristoffersen. Third place went to the Swede Matts Olsson (+3). The Frenchman Alexis Pinturault narrowly missed the podium in 1,31th place.

For the 29-year-old Hirscher, it was the 60th World Cup victory in his career.

Tonetti with an outstanding second run Riccardo Tonetti from Bolzano had a strong second run. After round 1, the 29-year-old was still in 16th place (SportNews reported) .

In the second round, Tonetti went one step further, showed an outstanding run, achieved the best time in all areas and temporarily took the lead. In the end, he was able to celebrate his good 8th place as the best “Azzurro”.

Manfred Mölgg was also able to improve in round 2 and took 17th place. Luca De Aliprandini from Nonsberg finished just ahead of Mölgg in 16th place.

However, Simon Maurberger and Alex Hofer were unable to qualify for the second round. Maurberger ended up in 38th place in the first round. The 23-year-old from St. Peter im Ahrntal recently triumphed in the European Cup (SportNews reported) .

There was nothing to gain for Alex Hofer. The Castelrotto resident took 47th place (+3,70) in the first round and thus clearly missed the second run.
