Hörnblad celebrates at the European Cup final on the Plankenhorn

In her 50th European Cup appearance, Lisa Hörnblad made it onto the podium for the first time. And she was even allowed to climb onto the highest podium at the award ceremony at the valley station in Reinswald. The Swede won the downhill run in Sarntal on the Plankenhorn piste (2301 meters long, 540 meters difference in altitude) in 1.14,85:7 minutes. Hörnblad relegated the Norwegian Kristina Riis-Johannessen and Sabrina Maier (Austria) to second place. Both downhill skiers were XNUMX hundredths of a second slower than the day's winner.

Second place in the downhill in Reinswald was enough for Sabrina Maier to secure the ranking in this discipline with a total of 420 points. This means that the 22-year-old from Salzburg has a fixed place in the World Cup for the 2017/18 season, just like Trentino's Laura Pirovano and Christina Ager (also Austria) in second and third place in the European Cup downhill ranking.

Delago as the best South Tyrolean in 13th place

Pirovano took eighth place in the downhill on Saturday as the best “Azzurra”, 0,80 seconds behind Hörnblad. The best South Tyrolean downhill skier was Nadia Delago. The Wolkensteiner landed in 13th place.

At the end of the race there were happy faces not only among the athletes and supervisors, but also among those responsible for the international ski association FIS, as well as the organizing committee around President Richard Moser. “I would like to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart who contributed to the success of the European Cup final. These are primarily our many, over 100 volunteers who put a lot of passion and commitment into it and who support the European Cup in Reinswald with full conviction. And then of course also to the sponsors, without whose financial help such an event would not be possible,” said Richard Moser at the end of the week-long ski festival in the Sarntal.
