Holzknecht and Ferk are the winners of the “2Horn Downhill Cup 2013”

Norbert Holzknecht took the fastest track on the well-prepared slope at Jochgrimm in 46,19 seconds. The strong competition cut its teeth on the 36-year-old Austrian's best time. Marco Tomasi from Bolzano came closest (46,72). The reigning ski cross Italian champion and eighth in the World Championships took second place in the 2Horn Cup, with Christoph Kompatscher third. In 47,30 seconds, the former racer was over a second slower than Holzknecht.

The former professional has proven many times in the World Cup that the winner of the day, Holzknecht, is an extremely good glider. He landed in the top ten three times in his career and all three times he achieved this feat on the Saslong in Val Gardena, where he finished eighth, ninth and tenth between 2003 and 2005. In 1995, Holzknecht also became junior downhill runner-up world champion. “It was great fun to take part in the 2Horn Cup. The secret of my fast skis? “I won’t tell you that and it will remain a secret,” laughed Holzknecht in the finish area.

The women's victory in the “2Horn Downhill Südtirol Vist Cup” also went to a foreign racer. Marusa Ferk from Slovenia set the best time of 51.26 seconds and was 0,09 seconds faster than Super-G Italian champion Verena Stuffer from St. Christina in Val Gardena. Francesca Scola from Ski Team Fassa took third place (54,72). “I had great skiing today. But Marusa was a tiny bit faster than me. That’s fine,” laughed Stuffer, who had already taken second place in her “home race”, the Gardenissima, on Saturday.

In addition to Stuffer, Hanna Schnarf, a second South Tyrolean top racer from the Italian national team, was at the start. Schnarf, who had to miss the previous season due to a torn cruciate ligament and a damaged meniscus, took a very relaxed approach to the race and started in a ski suit from the 60s. “It’s nice to be on skis again,” said Schnarf.

There was also a team competition at the 2Horn Cup. The “Team Schuhbert” team, made up of the racers Verena Stuffer, Martin Keck, Hubert Rabensteiner, Dominik Stolz and Hannes Haas, prevailed here. Second place went to HM Selection (Chantal Pfeifer, Norbert Holzknecht, Marco Tomasi, Christoph Kompatscher and Moritz Lintner), ahead of Team Vist (Marusa Ferk, Elmar Stimpfl, Josef Strobl, Artur Schönweger and Robert Glück).

Prizes were also awarded to those racers who achieved the highest speed. For the men, this was Marco Tomasi, who “had it” at 114,28 kilometers per hour. He can look forward to a weekend on board a Porsche. In the women's race, Ferk and Stuffer had exactly the same speed (97,03 km/h). As a reward, you will each spend a weekend behind the wheel of a BMW.

A total of 2 racers crossed the finish line in the 132Horn Downhill Cup, and almost 190 had registered. Among the participants were active racers such as Florian Eisath or ex-top athlete Josef “Pepi” Strobl, as well as the former professional cyclist Claudio Chiappucci.

“I am very satisfied with how our 2Horn race went. The participants had a great time, and that is our main focus. The weather conditions weren't easy, but I'm glad everything went smoothly. My thanks go to the many volunteers, our sponsors and also the top athletes, who give the many amateur racers a great opportunity to compete with professionals,” said OC boss Christian Haas from the organizing Auer ski club.
