Hundredth thriller: Hütter prevents the next Azzurre victory

With perfect piste conditions and bright sunshine, the ladies tackled the Kvitfjell route on Friday morning. The path to victory undoubtedly led through the technically demanding middle section, which determined the speed in the finish section. Cornelia Hütter from Austria mastered the tight corners best, snatching victory from Azzurra Elena Curtoni's nose by 0,01 seconds. Lara Gut-Behrami (+0,12 seconds) from Switzerland came third.

Many people bit their teeth at Curtoni's aggressive and lightning-fast driving. But Hütter managed the decisive passage in the middle even better and overtook the 32-year-old by a hair's breadth in the gliding passage before the finish. The scoreboard lit up green and Curtoni gasped in amazement - the time difference was 0,01 seconds. The Austrian threw her hands up and secured the ÖSV women's first victory of the current season.

With this, Hütter put a big dent in the plans for today's favorites. Nevertheless, Curtoni collected important points in the fight for the Super-G World Cup, as did Gut-Behrami (3rd place) and Federica Brignone (5th place/+0,29). These athletes benefited from the disastrous run of local hero and leader Ragnhild Mowinckel, who ultimately only achieved 14th place. Meanwhile, Mikaela Shiffrin (rank 4/+0,16) gave up a big lead at the start and failed to catch up with Ingemar Stenmark's record (86 World Cup victories). The US girl still has 85 successes.

The reigning Super-G world champion Marta Bassino did not start after the Azzurra went over before the race Death of her sister-in-law had been informed. Sofia Goggia was eliminated, while the crisis of Nicol and Nadia Delago from Val Gardena continued with places 32 (+2,83) and 33 (+2.90). Karoline Pichler was due to injury not even at the start.
