Stroke of fate for ski ace: “I carry him in my heart”

A year ago, Swiss downhill skier Priska Nufer celebrated the greatest success of her career. In Crans Montana she raced to her first victory in a completely sensational way - even though she had never been on a World Cup podium before. However, this all happened at a time that was very difficult for the now 31-year-old: Nufer's father Peter was in very bad shape at the time.

“Because of his illness, he lived in his own world and often had bad days. “It wasn’t always easy, I had a very close bond with him, our passion for skiing connected us very much,” said Nufer in an interview View . “When I came home after my victory, he was beaming like he had rarely been during his last months of life. That touched me very much and was one of the most beautiful moments of my life.”

A few weeks later, at the beginning of April 2022, Nufer's father lost the battle against the disease. “It hurts, but on the one hand I am glad that he was released from his illness. I often worried when I was away for a training camp or racing and he was feeling unwell. I wanted to be there for him. On the other hand, I knew: It was always his greatest wish for me to be on the slopes,” said the skier.

Crans Montana brought Priska Nufer luck again this year. She finished 6th in the downhill, equaling her best result of the season, which she achieved in Cortina at the end of January. One person who is, in a way, on every trip is her father. “I carry him in my heart now,” are Nufer’s emotional words.
