In the form of life: Casse races onto the Wengen podium

Speed specialist Casse had to be 32 years old before he was finally able to celebrate his first World Cup podium. In mid-December we left Val Gardena. The Italian confirmed third place in the Saslong on Saturday in Wengen. With start number three, the man from Piedmont showed a courageous drive and took the lead for the time being. In the end it was enough for third place again, with which Casse underlined his strong form.

As a result, only Kilde and Marco Odermatt beat his time. The Norwegian repeated his victory from the previous day and secured his third Wengen victory – the second in the downhill. On Saturday, Kilde showed a superlative ride. On a shortened route (the upper section of the route was deleted due to the wind), the 30-year-old was 88 hundredths of a second faster than second-placed Odermatt.

Casse, on the other hand, was a good second slower than the outstanding Kilde. Beat Feuz also showed a strong race on his farewell to Wengen: The three-time Lauberhorn winner said goodbye to the Swiss ski audience with fifth place. The surprise of the day, however, was Marco Schwarz. The Austrian finished sixth on his downhill debut with start number 31.

Paris in top ten Dominik Paris had more potential. The Ultner made a crucial mistake shortly before the Silberhorn jump. Otherwise we would have achieved more than ninth place. At least Paris recorded its second-best result of the season on Saturday. So, to the delight of South Tyrolean ski fans, the trend is pointing slightly upwards again.

With Matteo Marsaglia (11th), another Azzurro almost ended up in the top ten. Florian Scheider finished in 44th place with the high starting number 19. The Castelrotto resident thus confirmed his strong comeback season. Christof Innerhofer took 30th place. The World Cup week in Wengen ends on Sunday (10.15/13.15) with the slalom.
