Innerhof fastest in training: What happens now?

Actually the thing was scratched. Innerhofer will not compete in the World Cup downhill. Matteo Marsaglia gets preference. But now the 38-year-old from Gais can boast a 2nd and 1st place in downhill training on the L'Eclipse World Cup course. This puts the coaches around boss Max Carca in trouble. Because Marsaglia has 22nd place from Friday after not starting on Tuesday.

Nevertheless, Innerhofer will – as of now – travel home on Saturday after the last of the three training sessions. Marsaglia, who is struggling with back problems, will start. The South Tyrolean's strong training performances haven't changed that. In the World Cup, “Inner” achieved 17th place as its best result. Marsaglia once came in 13th place, but collected one World Cup point less than the South Tyrolean. A qualification between Innerhofer and Marsaglia was never considered. We'll see how it turns out in the end. But there is nothing to suggest that Carca & Co. will reconsider the decision. What is certain is that Innerhofer was the fastest on Friday. The newly crowned Super-G world champion James Crawford (CAN) ranked 31 hundredths behind the South Tyrolean. Alexis Monney (SUI/3rd) and Broderick Thompson (CAN/4th) followed.

Paris is okay and can start on the descent Dominik Paris was able to give the all-clear on Friday after downhill training. In fifth place (+0,48), he was the second best Azzurro behind Innerhofer. The Ultner fell in the Super-G on Thursday and received a blow to his thigh. Friday's training was painless. Paris will take part in final training on Saturday and start the race on Sunday. “I found my way around the slopes well today,” says Paris, confident for the World Cup downhill.

Florian Schieder, who finished the second downhill training in 6th place (+0,52), is also in good shape. The Castelrotto resident already has his ticket for Sunday in his pocket. The same applies to Mattia Casse, who finished 38th (+3,44) on Friday. Guglielmo Bosca (29th/+2,10) was also at the start in training, but will not take part in the downhill. Innerhof fastest in training: What happens now?

Christof Innerhofer was the fastest at the World Cup downhill training on Friday in Courchevel. Can the South Tyrolean now start the race on Sunday (11 a.m.)? Or is the Italian winter sports association waiving the veteran?
