No question: Christof Innerhofer's fourth place in the Kitzbühel downhill race on Sunday was a sensation. Gaiser tested positive for Corona at the beginning of January and had to spend around two weeks at home. Ski training was out of the question, the highest feeling was dry training.

In his first race after recovering from illness on Friday, it became clear that these days had left their mark on Innerhofer. “I was in top form before I got sick, now I'm a wreck,” he said after his 22nd place, over three seconds behind winner Beat Feuz. What was even more astonishing was that Innerhofer put on a fantastic performance two days later with Beat Feuz's renewed victory Finishing fourth, he narrowly missed his first downhill podium in Kitzbühel.

“I’m very happy today,” said Innerhofer, who incidentally achieved his best result in two years. At the beginning of February 2019 he also came fourth in the Super-G at the World Championships in Åre, after which a torn cruciate ligament slowed him down. His trick for the race on Sunday? “Yesterday’s rest day was extremely good for me. “I slept for over 12 hours,” said Innerhofer, who was able to fully charge his batteries. The Gaiser certainly also benefited from his low starting number six, because after that the visibility became worse. Nevertheless, this achievement is magnificent. Paris is struggling with poor visibility “I knew I had to step up a gear today. I wasn't thinking about the fog or the poor visibility, just: you have to ski well today. I’m very happy with my ride,” said Innerhofer.

A mood that did not prevail with Dominik Paris. The Ultner, who was still with us on Friday his first podium finish of the season caused a sensation and was worth more than seventh place. “I didn’t ski well,” says Paris, who also struggled with the visibility. “In conditions like today I still have problems and I have to improve. You couldn't see anything, it was dark. But that’s no excuse and I have to keep working on myself.” Schieder was sometimes faster than Feuz Florian Schieder caused the biggest surprise on Sunday. The 25-year-old from Castelrotto has never been better than 25th in the World Cup, but he had his big day in Kitzbühel and climbed to 50th place with start number 14 (!). Schieder had a great time, as a look at the split times shows: in the first four part-times he was always faster than Beat Feuz. At this time, the Swiss was already giving his first interviews with the winners and was probably still sweating a lot. In the end it was 14th place for Schieder and by far his best career result.

“I felt good after the second downhill training,” said the Castelrotto native, who came 16th there. “Unfortunately I wasn't allowed to start in the first race (it was canceled after 30 runners, editor's note). Today I just wanted to ride like I did in training.” He was surprised that he was sometimes faster than winner Beat Feuz. “When I went down I didn’t have the best feeling. I just tried to hold the line.” With success, because he achieved a great result with 14th place.
