Italian triumph at the World Cup premiere in St. Vigil

The World Cup premiere at the foot of Kronplatz was a success. Much more: the Italian ski ladies have turned the giant slalom in St. Vigil into a true folk festival. They celebrated two podium places in front of full ranks in the finish area.

Federica Brignone, who achieved her third success in the World Cup in South Tyrol, climbed onto the winner's podium. The 26-year-old Lombard put in two outstanding runs on the “Erta” and relegated top favorite Tessa Worley to second place by more than half a second. Behind the Frenchwoman, another Azzurra, Marta Bassino, made it onto the podium. Two Italians in the giant slalom in the top three - that last happened in Lienz in 3, when Denise Karbon won and Nicole Gius took third place.

Irene Curtoni rounded off the Italian team's extremely strong team result in eighth place.

Mölgg makes up three places

Only for Manuela Mölgg the giant slalom didn't go as planned. After recent outstanding performances, the Enneberg native missed out on a top placing on her home track of all places. After a cautious first run, she was in 17th position, but thanks to an increase in performance in the upper part of the route, she was able to work her way up to 14th place in the decision and thus score numerous World Cup points.

The women's World Cup is now moving from St. Vigil to Cortina, where two speed competitions will be held at the weekend.

The Azzurre dominated the giant slalom on the Erta piste at Kronplatz: Federica Brignone took victory, Marta Bassino took third place behind Tessa Worley. Only for Enneberg local hero Manuela Mölgg, the home race in front of thousands of spectators didn't go as planned.
