Italian Championship: Patscheider and Paris on the podium

The first gold medal found its buyer in Matteo Marsaglia. The 26-year-old Piedmontese outran the competition on the Franco Berthod piste in La Thuile and became the new Italian downhill champion. As in the previous season, the silver medal went to Hagen Patscheider from Vinschger. With a gap of two tenths, he was slightly faster than third-placed Dominik Paris from Ultimo.

The South Tyroleans Christof Innerhofer, Peter Fill, Patrick Staudacher and Werner Heel, who is celebrating his 29th birthday today, decided not to take part.

Elena Fanchini wins in Pila

While the speed kings determined their champion in La Thuile, the women went on the hunt for medals in Pila. Elena Fanchini won the downhill race on the “Bellevue”. She relegated Camilla Borsotti and Francesca Marsaglia to their places. None of the South Tyrolean women made it close to the podium. Only young hopeful Lisa Agerer was able to place sixth.

On Thursday the men's super combined (9.30 a.m.) and the women's super combined (10.30 a.m.) are on the program.
