Italy's greatest skiing hope under the knife

However, Franzoni will not be able to train for weeks and will therefore miss a significant part of the preparation for the season.

Considering the fact that the sporting year so far has been extremely promising, the break will be particularly painful for the 20-year-old from Manerba on Lake Garda. Last season he won gold (super-G) and silver (giant slalom) at the Junior World Championships, won the Italian championship title in the Alpine combined, also made his World Cup debut and finished in the top 30 at the World Championships in Cortina with two Placements make you sit up and take notice.

Now Franzoni has to cope with his first setback on his way to becoming one of the world's top skiers. However, a special circumstance should make his time in the hospital easier: 20-year-old Alessandro Pizio, a teammate and long-time friend of Franzoni, also underwent surgery in Milan on Monday.
