Hunt for the money: There's more in Kitz than anywhere else

In total, the organizers are distributing 550.000 euros in prize money for the three races (Super-G, downhill and slalom). The most is up for grabs in the downhill and the slalom: here the winner receives 74.000 euros each, the second can enjoy 37.000 euros, while the third also receives a nice sum of 18.500 euros. A tenth place brings 3.200 euros, a 20th place is worth 1.200 euros, while the athletes in 30th place also receive 1.000 euros - all gross, of course.

In the Super-G, the prize money is slightly lower: the winner gets 55.500 euros, the runner-up gets 27.750 euros, while the third gets 13.875 euros. In summary: 200.000 euros will be distributed in the downhill and slalom, 150.000 in the super-G - meaning a total of 550.000 euros. No other race in the World Cup pays out so much.

In the beginning there were radios and razors The development of prize money in Kitzbühel is also interesting. In 1955, non-cash prizes such as radios, razors and wristwatches were awarded to the winners. It wasn't until 1992 that the athletes were able to enjoy prize money: at that time there was a total of 49.053 euros, which was distributed in gold coins and only to the first three athletes in the downhill, slalom and combination. 550.000 euros are now paid out on the three racing days, with the first 30 athletes always cashing in.
