Josef Ferstl ensures a premiere in Reinswald

February 1st seems to bring Josef Ferstl luck. Last year he came third in the Super-G in S. Caterina Valfurva, and this year he even won in the same discipline in Reinswald. In an exciting race with very close time gaps, the 24-year-old was ahead by 0,06 seconds on the Plankenhorn piste and relegated the Norwegian Aleksander Aamodt Kilde to second place.

Kilde also took second place in the super combined on Thursday and won the last super-G a week ago in Val d'Isère. Third place in Reinswald was Austrian Niklas Köck, who climbed onto the podium in the European Cup for the first time in his career on his 21st birthday. The ÖSV athlete was 0,10 seconds behind the winner.

For Ferstl it was the second victory in the European Cup, or the fourth podium overall in the second most important racing series for Alpine skiers. After Hannes Wagner and Thomas Dressen, he is the third German to achieve a top 3 result in the Sarntal. South Tyrolean-born Jeffrey Frisch, who competes for Canada, came fifth (+0,33).

The best “Azzurro” in the Super-G on Friday was Paolo Pangrazzi, as he was the day before in the Super-Combination. The 24-year-old came in eighth place. The best South Tyrolean was Aaron Hofer from Wipptal, who finished the race in 57th place.

Berthold's series breaks, but he is still the "Reinswalder Ski King"

After five podium finishes in a row in Reinswald, Frederic Berthold had to settle for 14th place on Friday. The Austrian won the downhill this year and came third in the super combined. In 2012, however, he won the super combined and took second place (downhill) and third place (super-G).

Nevertheless, Berthold received a prize on Friday. Because the 21-year-old from Vorarlberg scored the most European Cup points in the three speed competitions this year, he is the “Reinswalder Ski King” and was presented with an original Sarner hat by Mayor Franz Locher.

The ninth edition of the Sarn European Cup week came to an end with the Super-G. “We experienced very exciting races. The conditions were ideal, especially on Wednesday and Thursday we had sunshine and very pleasant temperatures. The slopes are in excellent condition, for which I would like to thank the Reinswalder Liftgesellschaft.
