World Cup fixed ticket for Platino, bitter pill for Zingerle

At the start of the European Cup final in Narvik (which is in the very north of Norway), the women's and men's giant slaloms were on the program on Monday. Elisa Platino from Obermais finished in fourth place, underlining her strong form: the 24-year-old was in the top 10 of the European Cup giant slalom seven times this year, and even made it to the podium twice. Platino had the best season of her career - and rewarded herself with the best gift.

Because the Burggräfler woman finished third in the giant slalom classification, she will receive a fixed World Cup ticket for this discipline for the coming season. This year Platino has already shown several times that she can hold her own in the premier ski class, as she collected points three times, with a 16th place in Kranjska Gora being her best placement.

Zingerle is missing four measly points Hannes Zingerle, on the other hand, narrowly missed out on a World Cup fixed ticket in the giant slalom. The man from Val Badia landed in 10th place on Monday and finished the discipline ranking in fourth place - just four points behind the third-placed Swiss Marco Fischbacher. Bitter also because of another circumstance: Zingerle had competed in the World Cup giant slalom on Sunday in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia, before quickly traveling to Narvik, 2500 kilometers away. “These four points really hurt, but I gave it my all,” wrote the skier from Stern on social media.

But even if the 27-year-old doesn't have a permanent starting place, he should play regularly next season. With places 14, 15 and 18, Zingerle proved this year that he can compete in the World Cup. In the giant slalom ranking he was the fourth best Azzurro behind Filippo Della Vite, Luca De Aliprandini and Giovanni Borsotti - even though the Gadertaler is not part of the national team. Based on his performances this season, there is a good chance that he will be reinstated.

Incidentally, the giant slalom classification in the European Cup was secured by the Swede Hilma Lövblom and the Swiss Josua Mettler. The races on Monday were won by the Austrian Michaela Heider and the Norwegian Fredrik Möller.
