Kitzbühel dress rehearsal with a big surprise

The piste is in ideal condition, the area around it has been transformed into a winter landscape after the snowfall of the last few days and there is never a lack of spectacle: in Kitzbühel everything is ready for the traditional Hahnenkamm races. There was a surprise in the dress rehearsal on Thursday.

The fastest in training was the Frenchman Cyprien Sarrazin, who no one had on the list with start number 31. A 6th place in Val Gardena was his best result of the season so far, otherwise he never got higher than 19th place in the downhill this year. Which isn't surprising, since the 28-year-old is competing in downhill races for the first time this winter.

A skier since this year “I was previously slowed down by serious injuries and had to take a break for two years. That's why I chose the giant slalom for my comeback, but now I want to attack in the speed competitions, I've always liked that," said Sarrazin in an interview with ORF. By the way, the Frenchman is an outspoken Alta Badia lover and he achieved his two podium places (victory in the parallel giant slalom, second place in the giant slalom) on the Gran Risa.

Niels Hintermann came in second (+0,04 seconds), and Austrian Otmar Striedinger came third (+0,15). There was a moment of shock for Aleksander Aamodt Kilde because he injured his right hand. Apparently the Norwegian had to go to the hospital and his start in the Kitzbühel races is uncertain. The other favorites held back.

Innerhofer points out From a South Tyrolean perspective, Christof Innerhofer achieved a strong training result. The Gaiser ended up in 7th place, so he can also be expected in the races. Dominik Paris didn't reveal all his cards in the very close test run (the first 17 athletes were all within one second) and is in 16th position. Florian Schieder completed the training in 52nd place. The best Azzurro was Mattia Casse in fifth.

The two descents on the infamous Streif take place on Friday and Saturday. Each event starts at 11.30:10.30 a.m. The program is rounded off on Sunday with the slalom (13.30:XNUMX a.m. / XNUMX:XNUMX p.m.).
