Klotz & Paris: Two youngsters really step on the gas - VIDEO

The Italian national speed team is currently training diligently on the Stelvio Pass. It is the first course on a European glacier since returning from Argentina, where work took place in September. The times achieved during training in South America, but also in South Tyrol, do not bring any World Cup points. But they will give the fast athletes self-confidence for the first races.

Someone who was often at the front in these training sessions and therefore must have gained a lot of self-confidence is Siegmar Klotz. The 24-year-old from Lana confirms that he is in great shape. “I feel very good and am in a great mood. It's true that I was always very fast in training. The entire preparation went optimally and according to plan. But what’s important is that I’m also at the front in the races,” says the speed specialist and smiles mischievously. “So far, Siegmar Klotz has certainly made the biggest leap,” confirms Peter Fill.

Dominik Paris was also usually fast on the training rides. “I am very happy with how training went this year. We had perfect conditions overseas,” said the Ultner.

Settle in the top group

Paris and Klotz want to establish themselves in the top group of the downhill and super-G disciplines. “My goal is to be able to confirm the consistency from last year in the downhill. Otherwise, I always want to compete for a podium result. “Maybe we’ll be able to win one day,” says Paris, looking to the future. “I want to be consistently in the top 30 in a discipline. And then of course it would be fantastic if I could qualify for the World Cup in Schladming,” says Klotz.

The “old guys” in the team ensure that the two don’t take off: Peter Fill, Werner Heel and, last but not least, Christof Innerhofer. “Inner” is still suffering from back problems and has therefore only recently started training with the team. But Fill and especially Heel are getting better and better and are standing up to the two carefree boys. “We are in a good mood as a team,” adds Fill.

The (healthy) competition in the team is alive and well, it drives all athletes to peak performance in training. Nothing better could have happened to the Italian speed team a month and a half before the start of the season.

All ski fans can watch a detailed TV report about the national team's preparation for the season on the Stelvio on Thursday in the “SportArena”, which will be broadcast at 21.40 p.m. on the Rai station Bozen. The repeat will air on Friday at 18.00 p.m.
