A ski world champion gives up

At the World Championships in Cortina d'Ampezzo, the Norwegian team put on a big show in the team event. Although numerous top athletes were missing, the quartet (which consisted mainly of no names) won the gold medal - thanks, among other things, to Kristina Riis-Johannessen, who made a decisive contribution to winning the precious metal that day. 9 months later, the world looks completely different: a few days ago, the 30-year-old Norwegian suddenly and unexpectedly ended her career.

“I can't believe this great adventure is over. My ski career is over. But, oh man, this journey was incredible, great, exhausting, fun, beautiful, frustrating, inspiring, exhausting, awesome - just every emotion there is,” writes Riis-Johannessen on social media.

I would like to continue skiing, but as the situation is now, that is not possible.” A surprising resignation A retirement that surprised the ski scene, after all Riis-Johannessen was involved in the two Levi Slaloms this year, but was unable to qualify for the second run. And: Last winter she had the best season of her career. She finished in the top 20 six times in her flagship discipline, the slalom, and also celebrated her best result ever with 7th place in Åre. Now it's over for the skier from Oslo, who achieved a total of three podium places in the European Cup in Sarntal.
