Queen of East Tyrol: Worley triumphs in Lienz

Worley was already in the lead after the first run, and the Frenchwoman went into the second run with a lead of 1 hundredths over the Swedish favorite Sara Hector. Worley didn't let anything go wrong there, showed a solid drive and ultimately secured a confident victory, 12 hundredths ahead of the Slovakian Petra Vlhova.

Hector had lost several tenths due to a slide in the middle section, but was able to stay on his skis in a strong manner and was still able to be happy about a podium finish. The Azzurra Federica Brignone, who was in 12th place after the first round, showed a strong second run and ended up in 2th place. Her compatriot Marta Bassino, who won the small crystal ball in the giant slalom last season, finished the race in 4th place.

It was Worley's 15th World Cup victory overall - all of which she won in the giant slalom. Before her victory in East Tyrol, the 32-year-old was last successful on January 26th, at the World Cup in Kronplatz. It was her first victory in Lienz, and she celebrated her first ever World Cup triumph in November 2008 in Aspen (USA).

The American Mikaela Shiffrin, who is leading in the overall World Cup and giant slalom World Cup, was not there in Austria due to a corona infection. In addition to Shiffrin, the reigning world champion Lara Gut-Behrami was also missing again due to a positive corona test. The Swiss woman had therefore already missed the previous four World Cup races in Val d'Isère and Courchevel and had therefore probably lost important points for the overall ranking.
