Kostelic triumphs in the Super-G in Kitz – South Tyroleans miss out on the top ten

The circle of favorites for the opening victory in Kitzbühel was very wide, but only the boldest experts had the Croatians, who started the race with starting number three, in mind. With a consistent, almost error-free drive, he once again showed his excellent form and drove the following competitors to despair. The closest came the second-placed Austrian Georg Streitberger, 23 hundredths behind. Third place went to Aksel Lund Svindal from Norway.

Christof Innerhofer crossed the finish line as the best “Azzurro”. The 26-year-old Gaiser lost valuable hundredths with a mistake on the edge of the local mountain and finished the race in 11th place at the same time as Erik Guay. Werner Heel took 15th place, closely followed by Peter Fill from Castelrotto. Hagen Patscheider from Vinschger was able to achieve a sense of achievement with 23rd place. For Stefan Thanei the race ended early after a retirement. A similar fate befell the two other South Tyroleans, Siegmar Klotz and Patrick Staudacher.

The downhill run is scheduled for Saturday in Kitzbühel before the slalom skiers tackle the Ganslernhang the following day.
