Kröll wins on the Lauberhorn – Heel and Innerhofer convince

The first big exclamation mark on the spectacular descent in Wengen came from Andrej Jerman, who was able to stay in the leading position for a long time with a rapid ride. But then came Klaus Kröll's big performance: The Austrian secured the best time by driving up and away from the competition, especially in the upper and middle parts of the track. Later, only Didier Cuche really came close, but he too had to admit defeat, 14 hundredths behind. His Swiss teammate Carlo Janka pushed surprise man Jerman off the podium in third place.

Werner Heel ranked behind the Slovenians. The 28-year-old from Walten in the Passeier Valley showed a very strong performance in all sections of the route and, in fifth place, 1,25 seconds behind Kröll, left several favorites behind for the downhill victory. Christof Innerhofer was certainly one of these, even though he suffered a badly bruised elbow on Friday in preparation for the combination slalom. However, this handicap did not prevent the Gaiser from driving consistently and securing a top ten place with seventh place. Peter Fill made it into the final ranking in 19th place.

With Dominik Paris (25th) and the surprisingly strong Hagen Patscheider (26th) and Siegmar Klotz (27th) three more South Tyrolean World Cup points scored. However, Stefan Thanei in 34th place and Patrick Staudacher in 35th place missed out on making it into the top 30 drivers.

The winner of the longest descent in the ski circuit has a name: Klaus Kröll mastered the Lauberhorn descent in Wengen the fastest. The South Tyrolean speed kings, however, achieved a good overall result.
