Levi slalom without Tschurtschenthaler: “Not in shape yet”

With excellent performances in the European Cup, Vera Tschurtschenthaler became the focus of the coaches last season - and won a starting place in the World Cup Slalom in Kranjska Gora. She repaid the trust with a fantastic ride, but in the end she ended up in a thankless 31st place after a mistake. Nevertheless, Tschurtschenthaler was more than satisfied with her debut. Not in the best shape Motivation enough to approach the summer with a broad chest. “I’m happy with how the dry training went,” says Tschurtschenthaler. However, she had difficulty skiing. That's also the reason why she wasn't considered for the slalom doubles in Levi. However, the 23-year-old expected this because she was “not yet in shape”.

Although in Sulden, at the first FIS races of the year, one an upward trend could be seen, the 23-year-old from Sexten is self-critical: “I expect more from myself,” she emphasizes. Despite her “form crisis” – she was assured – she could still have started in Levi. But because Federica Brignone and Marta Bassino decided to travel to Lapland at short notice, nothing came of it. Tschurtschenthaler accepts this in a sportingly fair manner.

She doesn't know when she will compete in her first race at international level, especially since the European Cup races in Trysil (Norway) planned for December 1rd and 3th were canceled. “I hope that the two slaloms will be held in Italy,” she emphasizes. In 4, the parallel giant slalom in Lech-Zürs and the slalom at Semmering in the World Cup are still on their agenda. It is uncertain whether Tschurtschenthaler can start there. “In the meantime I will probably take part in a few FIS races,” says the South Tyrolean.

In addition to the “elite riders” Bassino and Brignone, Irene Curtoni, Marta Rossetti, Lara Della Mea and Martina Peterlini, all of whom belong to the A squad, as well as debutante Serena Viviani from the European Cup team were nominated for the slaloms in Levi.
