Lienz: Fenninger wins – strong comeback from Karbon and Mölgg

Anna Fenninger clinched her fifth World Cup victory on Saturday in Lienz, her fourth in giant slalom. The 24-year-old Austrian, who had been lurking in second place after first place, stepped up her game again in the second round and ultimately prevailed with a lead of 0,50 seconds over the half-time leader, Swede Jessica Lindell-Vikarby.

Third place went to the American Mikaela Shiffrin, who swapped places with the Austrian Kathrin Zettel in the second round and relegated her to the thankless fourth place.

Strong team performance from the “Azzurre”

The Italians also showed a strong performance on Saturday. Seven of the eight “Azzurre” at the start qualified for the second round and ultimately made it into the top 20. The best Italian was Nadia Fanchini, who finished fifth, 1,19 seconds behind. Immediately behind in sixth place is the next “Azzurra”, Federica Brignone.

In the second round of the giant slalom in Lienz, the two South Tyroleans Denise Karbon and Manuela Mölgg also showed their class and were able to gain a total of 12 and ten places respectively. The woman from Castelrotto set the fastest running time in the second round and rushed forward from 22nd to tenth place and ended up 2,54 seconds behind Fenninger. For the woman from Enneberg, however, it went from 23rd to 13th final place (+3,00). Between Karbon and Mölgg, two more Italians, Elena Curtoni (11th) and Francesca Marsaglia (12th), made it into the top 15. Sabrina Fanchini rounded off the good team result in 16th place.

Tomorrow there will be a slalom in Lienz. The first run starts at 10.30:13.30 a.m., the second run starts at XNUMX:XNUMX p.m.
