Linus Straßer surprises everyone

Linus Straßer had only a few on his list that day on the slalom slope above the Croatian capital. Although he made it into the top field in 6th place in Madonna before Christmas, the 28-year-old was definitely not a contender for victory until now. So far he has only been on the podium in parallel races. His performance on the fog-covered slope in Zagreb was all the more astonishing: after finishing 8th in the first round, he gave a sensational performance in the decision, made the entire competition look old and took the first German slalom victory since Felix Neureuther in November 1. With his furious drive, Straßer prevented an Austrian triple success. Behind the surprise man, Manuel Feller (+0,10 seconds), Marco Schwarz (+0,16) and Michael Matt (+0,46) took places 2 to 4. As second place, Feller took the lead in the Slalom World Cup. Half-time leader Clément Noël from France had to settle for 7th place. Decision without South Tyroleans Italy's slalom skiers had a pitch-black day in Zagreb, especially the South Tyroleans. Alex Vinatzer, who has already finished 4th and 3rd this season, moved into the upper part of the route in the first run after a strong split. Simon Maurberger also didn't collect any World Cup points on Wednesday. The Ahrntaler fell behind on the steep final slope and was eliminated. Manfred Mölgg, who lost a lot of time, especially in the lower part of the route, was unable to qualify for the decision in 1nd place. In the end, only two Azzurri made it into the points: Tommaso Sala came 2th, veteran Giuliano Razzoli finished 24th.
