Elisabeth Görgl was unable to qualify for the Alpine Ski World Championships, which are currently taking place in St. Moritz, this winter. The Styrian, who will celebrate her 20th birthday on February 36th, therefore used the last few weeks to fine-tune herself for the next races in the World Cup. The two-time Olympic medalist set up her training tents in Sarntal at the beginning of this week and trained in Reinswald on the new speed training slope, which has been available to the ski teams since the beginning of this season.

Görgl was impressed by the ideal training conditions in the Sarnen ski area. “Unfortunately I have never been to Sarntal before. In any case, I am completely enthusiastic about this area. There are cool terrain, a casually steep slope, there are jumps and the slope itself was in perfect condition,” praised the likeable Austrian, who announced the end of her career at the end of January. However, Görgl, who won World Championship gold in downhill and super-G in Garmisch-Partenkirchen six years ago, left the exact date of her retirement from skiing open.

Next week European Cup finals in the speed disciplines

In Reinswald, however, people are working feverishly on preparations for the European Cup finals for men and women in the speed disciplines, which will take place next week on a slightly modified Plankenhorn piste (3400 meters long, 820 meters altitude difference). . After the opening ceremony in the village hall in Reinswald on Sunday, February 19th from 20 p.m., the sporting event begins on Monday with the men's Super-G, which starts at 11 a.m. Wednesday is all about the women's Super-G, starting at 13 p.m.

A descent is planned for Thursday (9.30), which will also be counted as the first run for an Alpine combination. The decision in the combination will be made with a slalom from 14 p.m. The second men's downhill takes place on Friday (9.30:10 a.m.), while the Sarner Speed Week ends on Saturday with the women's downhill run. This race starts at XNUMXam.

“Much of what we planned has already been put into action. Now it's all about clarifying smaller details. In terms of preparations, we are definitely on track.
