When ski superstar Mikaela Shiffrin raced to victory in Sölden in October, boyfriend Aleksander Aamodt Kilde promptly kissed her at the finish. The powerhouse and today's most successful female ski racer have known each other for around seven years and are permanent guests on the World Cup podiums. Shiffrin especially in slalom, Kilde in downhill and super-G. But it only started working last winter. “Somehow there has always been something there,” Kilde revealed in the summer. While Kilde's season ended prematurely after tearing her cruciate ligament in January, the two-time Olympic champion was still coming to terms with her father's death in February 2020. Her way out of the mental depression also led through Kilde. “Alex was one of the first people with whom Mika enjoyed talking again,” mother Eileen now reports about her daughter in a documentary. And indeed: Shiffrin and Kilde present themselves on Instagram like teenagers who are deeply in love: giggling, singing and dancing together. Kilde is in the form of his life “So we were our own sparring partners,” said the Scandinavian in an interview with the Swiss portal blick.ch . Shiffrin also supported him during his injury. “When something unpleasant happens, something good often comes out.” The Norwegian's personal happiness is also reflected in his sporting achievements. With six World Cup successes – two more than Shiffrin – Kilde is already having the most successful season of his career. “We are making ourselves stronger,” said the 29-year-old recently, explaining his current high.

In Beijing, the speed rider, feared for his brutal skiing style, is aiming for Olympic medals for the third time. The best result so far: 13th place in the Super-G. But the Norwegian is in the form of his life. Your own demands are correspondingly high. Is there a second winning kiss for Mika? Overall World Cup leader Shiffrin is also ambitious heading into the season highlight. “I dream of starting in every discipline in China,” said Shiffrin, who is usually at home in the technology sector, in the fall. There are five individual competitions in China. An ambitious but achievable goal for Shiffrin. And who knows, maybe she'll get her second winner's kiss soon.
