Will Marcel Hirscher make everything clear this weekend?

The last two slalom and giant slalom races before the World Cup finals in Are will be held in Kranjska Gora. Hirscher leads the overall World Cup with 249 points ahead of the Norwegian Henrik Kristoffersen. Both athletes will compete in a maximum of four races this season, so four fifth places (180 points) are enough for Hirscher to stay ahead of Kristoffersen, even if the Norwegian wins all of the remaining races (400 points). If Hirscher comes second in both races in Kranjska Gora, he will also win the big crystal ball before the finale.

Giant slalom

Things are a little more exciting in the giant slalom classification: Hirscher is currently 105 points ahead of Kristoffersen, so the Salzburger can only close the bag early with a win on Saturday, even if the Norwegian finishes in second place. The giant slalom in Kranjska Gora will take place on Saturday (9.30 a.m./12.30 p.m.).

Slalom

Hirscher's lead in the slalom standings is quite comfortable: pursuer Kristoffersen is 144 points behind. With two slaloms still remaining, the Norwegian can score a maximum of 200 points, so third place (60 points) is enough for Hirscher to win the discipline ranking. The slaom in Kranjska Gora starts on Sunday at 9.30 a.m., the second run follows at 12.30 p.m.

Birthday boy Marcel Hirscher celebrated his 29th birthday on Friday, and his seventh overall World Cup victory is within reach; also his fifth ball in the giant slalom and slalom classifications.

Final in Are

Only the best 12 in the discipline rankings are admitted to the World Cup finals in Are from March 18th to 25th. In the slalom, Stefano Gross and Manfred Mölgg are currently in ninth and eleventh place, in the giant slalom with Luca De Aliprandini (11), Florian Eisath (13), Manfred Mölgg (15), Roberto Nani (21) and Riccardo Tonetti (25) five “Azzurri” in a promising position. However, Tonetti has to score points at the weekend because his lead over pursuer Tommy Ford (USA) is only eleven points.
