Marcel Hirscher: “It’s honestly frightening”

So is this sport too dangerous? Opinions are divided. How did Marcel Hirscher experience this orgy of falls and injuries? “To be honest, it’s shocking what happened in a single race weekend,” says the 67-time World Cup winner. “The fact that it is simply over, done, over for three podium finishers from the current season, and that the same thing is happening with the women, reflects how brutal this sport is. You only notice that when something happens, when a fall happens, when all the equipment suddenly flies around and, unfortunately, the band structures too. That is of course very borderline.” Races should be slowed down What suggestions for improvement does he have? “I was always in favor of slowing down. Because I don't think the viewer would see a difference if the pace were slowed down a bit. If a giant slalom today is 11 seconds faster than when I competed, then I believe that controlling the pace more would be a first step towards prevention.” Incidentally, Hirscher was also asked which race he would like to run again.
