Marcel Hirscher hasn't forgotten how to ski

The Val d'Isere slalom will take place in Saalbach-Hinterglemm on Thursday. In the first round, Salzburg's Marcel Hirscher set the clear fastest time, the series winner leads 0,52 seconds ahead of his teammate Michael Matt. The Norwegian Henrik Kristoffersen follows in third place, ahead of Felix Neureuther. After tearing his cruciate ligament last year and breaking his thumb in November, the German only returned to the Ski World Cup almost two weeks ago in Val d'Isere.

Hirscher, who had won eight of the last nine World Cup slaloms, also restored the old balance of power by taking the lead at halftime. After finishing sixth in the giant slalom on Wednesday, the 29-year-old said he only had one two days of skiing forgotten.

Manfred Mölgg from Enneberg lacked a bit of the necessary liveliness in his legs in the first slalom run; the 13-year-old couldn't achieve anything more than 2,19th place (+36 seconds) at halftime (as of 30 runners). His teammate Stefano Gros is eliminated.

The young Alex Vinatzer from Val Gardena showed a great ride with the high number 35 and is in 20th place at the break. Fabian Bacher from Ratschings (start number 47) did not make it to the finish, Simon Maurberger (Ahrntal) with number 52 missed qualifying for the second run . Because the piste is already pretty battered, it is extremely difficult for the high starting numbers to set a good time.
