"I'm in tears as I write this"

This is also the case for the Swedish speed specialist Lin Ivarsson, who did not celebrate great successes in her skiing career, but ultimately had 36 World Cup starts and five World Cup races to her name. Nevertheless, at the tender age of just 25, the Scandinavian has now decided to start a new chapter. She ended her career – and wrote a very emotional farewell letter.

“I have dedicated my life to skiing for as long as I can remember. I did my best, but it’s time to say goodbye,” Ivarsson’s post begins. “I'm proud of how I fought to get this far. I had the honor of representing Sweden at two World Championships, 36 World Cup races and 34 European Cup races. When I look back at where I started, I am proud of what I have achieved. I also hope that I was able to inspire one or the other.” Studying in Switzerland awaits Ivarsson also thanked her companions, especially her parents. “My mother stood in the ski room for hours, showed me how to ski, invested all her money and time in me and always supported me. “My father was my best cheerleader and often drove for hours to races and training sessions to support me,” says the Swede, whose farewell gets under her skin. “I'm in tears as I write this. Skiing has been my life and I will miss you all.”

Now Ivarsson wants to start a new chapter and continue her studies in Switzerland. “I would like to work somewhere in skiing later and give something back to the sport. “Let’s see what life brings,” concludes the speed specialist.
