With an emotional Facebook post: Karoline Pichler reports back

2016 was a very black year for Karoline Pichler. In February she tore a cruciate ligament in her left knee, but was able to recover quickly. The 22-year-old was back on skis in July, felt good and had big plans for the new World Cup season. But then the big shock: in a training fall, her other knee was completely destroyed; everything was broken except for the anterior cruciate ligament and the lateral meniscus. An injury that left Pichler mentally devastated - also because there was a big question mark over the continuation of her career.

The fatal training fall was now ten months ago. And with the fighter nature from Petersberg, there is no thought of ending his career. On Sunday, Pichler was back on skis for the first time - an experience that the giant slalomist enjoyed to the fullest. This also became clear in the Facebook post she put on her page on Tuesday.

“The most beautiful minute of my life” “I’m back on skis exactly ten months after my serious injury. It was ten long months of work and sacrifice. But on Sunday the day came. I go out on the snow, more excited than ever, getting ready, warming up and enjoying every single moment. I stand on my skis, breathe, breathe deeper than ever before. Many images are circulating in my head, my heart is pounding. I adjust my glasses, realizing they're still full of tears from that goddamn day ten months ago. Nevertheless, I don't want to clean them, but rather restart from exactly this event. One last look at Seraina (Pichler's physiotherapist, editor's note), one last breather, a swing forward - and then I experience the most beautiful minute of my entire life. A moment that makes you forget all the troubles of the last ten months. I stop and burst into tears when I think that ten months ago I didn't know if I would ever go back. My only thought: This is my place in this world.”
