Mr. Val Gardena strikes again - “Inner” & “Domme” surprise

And then there were 6! 6 victories that Aksel Lund Svindal celebrated on the venerable Saslong. He was at the top of the Super-G four times and in the downhill twice, with his most recent success being on Saturday - and it couldn't have been more impressive. With start number 13, the Norwegian powerhouse put together a determined and, above all, error-free run and crossed the finish line more than a second ahead of the interim leader Thomas Dressen. We already knew that this time would be very difficult, if not impossible, to beat. And that's how it was: Only Kjetil Jansrud briefly threatened Svindal's record, but he too was almost six tenths of a second behind at the finish in second place.

Last year's winner Max Franz also climbed onto the podium in third place. Behind them there was a real thriller in the battle for positions: The Swiss Gilles Roulin, with start number 32, drove sensationally to fourth place, from where he displaced Christof Innerhofer. The Gaiser finished the race in 5th place - an outstanding result, after all the 32-year-old has never been better than 13th in the Val Gardena downhill. Romed Baumann and Dominik Paris from Ultimo placed just two hundredths of a second behind “Inner”. in 6th position. It was also a sense of achievement for Paris, as the Saslong is not one of his favorite routes either.

Werner Heel with exclamation mark, black day for Fill The performance of Peter Fill, who crossed the finish line more than three seconds behind and came 57th, was completely wrong. Werner Heel, however, made a strong statement: after two fifth places in training, he also confirmed in the descent that Val Gardena suits him and finished 23rd in the points.

On Saturday, Aksel Lund Svindal once again lived up to his reputation as a Val Gardena dominator and won the Saslong downhill in a confident manner. The focus was also on Christof Innerhofer and Dominik Paris, who were able to overcome their Saslong curse.
