After horror injuries: 2 pleasant ski comebacks

Nina O'Brien and Lisa Hörnblad are united by one fate: they were highly rated, made it into the top 30 of the World Cup at a young age, but suffered repeated setbacks. The American has already landed in the top 10 three times in the premier class of skiing, missed out on a World Cup medal a year ago in Cortina by just a fraction due to a mistake and is a fixture in the US in both giant slalom and slalom -Team. O'Brien was also on course for a medal at the Olympic Games in Beijing for a long time, but she fell shortly before the finish and was seriously injured. The woman from San Francisco broke her tibia and fibula and began a long rehabilitation process.

As the American recently announced on social media, it went so well that she was able to return to snow. “I have passed my last tests and can ski again,” says O'Brien happily. “I still have a long way to go, but now the fun part begins. And wow, I'm excited to get going again.” When O'Brien will actually return to snow is unclear. But the start in Sölden probably comes too early.

Lisa Hörnblad was injured before the Olympic Games in China. The speed specialist - just like Sofia Goggia - fell during the Super-G in Cortina. However, the 26-year-old suffered a much more serious injury. “Torn cruciate ligament, collateral ligaments, menisci. My knee is practically destroyed,” she wrote on social media at the time. But Hörnblad didn't think about giving up, even though it was the umpteenth setback of her career.

She also tore her cruciate ligament in 2019, but in the other knee. The way back proved to be very difficult. The speed specialist only returned to the World Cup in November 2021 – two and a half years after the injury. “Guess who’s back,” wrote Hörnblad under her post in which she announced the good news.
