So the first World Cup podium place for the 24-year-old from Val Gardena should only be a matter of time: On the Kandahar she found a good line, was fast and for the most part showed a strong and safe ride. In the narrower passages in the middle section, however, it was not entirely without errors.

In the end, Delago finished in a strong 5th place and missed the podium by just 7 hundredths. This means she made it into the top 10 for the fifth time this season, each time in the downhill with places 6, 6, 8, 4 and now 5. The Winter Olympics can come for her.

Karoline Pichler from Petersberg also made it into the points. The 27-year-old, who will not be there in Beijing, ended up in 28th place. This time things went less well for Olympic starter Nicol Delago. Nadia Delago's older sister dropped out. She fell in the final section of the route, but fortunately was uninjured. Annoying: Delago was doing well and on course for a podium. Without a fall, the woman from Val Gardena would probably have taken third place. Suter in a class of its own In the absence of some top runners, the Swiss Corinne Suter started as the favorite and impressively lived up to this role.

The 27-year-old showed a good mix of risk and control and conjured up a best time in the snow that no one could match. In the end, Suter won with a lead of 0,51 seconds over her compatriot Jasmine Flury. Third place went to the Austrian Cornelia “Conny” Hütter (+3).

Only 41 runners were on the start list on Saturday. The previous dominator of the speed season, the Azzurra Sofia Goggia, was missing due to injury, as was Breezy Johnson. Mikaela Shiffrin, Petra Vlhova, Lara Gut-Behrami, Michelle Gisin, Ragnhild Mowinckel and a few others took a break before the Olympic Games or were already on their way to China. There is another Super-G on the program in Garmisch on Sunday (from 11.30 a.m.).
