“Reaching the next level”: Henrik Kristoffersen in South Tyrol

What brings Henrik Kristoffersen to South Tyrol these days? Many people are probably wondering that. On Friday, the Salzburg native paid a visit to his glove manufacturer Reusch in Bolzano on the way home from his vacation in Italy. Kristoffersen – like Mikaela Shiffrin, for example – has trusted the equipment brand from South Tyrol for many years and visits the employees in Bolzano from time to time. SportNews took the opportunity to chat with Kristoffersen.

SportNews spoke to Henrik Kristoffersen about…

…his South Tyrol experiences: “I've been here several times. South Tyrol is particularly popular with us athletes - just like Austria and Switzerland. And that in both summer and winter. I really like it here, I especially like the mountains. There are good training opportunities and nice places for skiing here. I have also enjoyed great success here from a professional perspective (two World Cup victories in Alta Badia).”

…his change of material: “It's something totally new for me. I've been with Rossignol all my life. But so far things are going very well with Van Deer (Marcel Hirscher's ski brand; Note d. Red. ). I feel like I can reach the next level through this collaboration. Marcel and his team (his father, his former serviceman and Toni Giger) work with great attention to detail. I didn't know it in this form before. This is a new level of professionalism for me. In addition, the company is still relatively small. This makes it easier to tailor the material to an individual driver. At the moment we don't exchange ideas very often because I won't start ski training again until mid-August. But so far I’m super happy about this collaboration.”

…contacting Hirscher: “I was looking for the first contact. For contractual reasons, Marcel would not have been allowed to do that in this case. But I don't see my brand change as a challenge or a risk because I'm just completely convinced that it will lead to success. I feel like I can now fully concentrate on skiing.”

... his future goals: “To win as many races as possible. What I'm still missing on paper is Olympic gold and the big crystal ball. But I actually approach every race the same way. For example, if you think you have to do something special at a major event, it usually falls through. You always have to try to do the normal things – whether in Schladming, in Alta Badia or at a World Cup.”

…South Tyrol’s slalom talent Alex Vinatzer: “I am very good friends with Alex. We will definitely see each other again soon when it snows. He's a good guy and I wish him every success as long as I'm in front of him (laughs). He is very talented and has a lot of speed, but not yet the consistency. But he is still very young.”
