New start for Super-G in Val Gardena

Rainer Senoner, President of the Saslong Classic Club, presented all the news that is planned for the 2019 World Cup with the Super-G on Friday, December 20th and the downhill on Saturday, December 21st. The Super-G start will be moved towards Sassolungo. A change that the FIS has definitely agreed to. “The start will be even faster and more technical, the television pictures will be much better. “In addition, this new starting position could also be interesting for a future sprint downhill,” said Senoner, explaining the advantages of this change.

At the same time, major investments are also being made along the racetrack. “New snow cannons are being installed. These can produce 30 percent more snow in the same period of time. In addition, most A-nets and sliding tarpaulins are being replaced. The races are on the calendar a week later this year. This is an advantage in terms of snow reliability, but on the other hand, the races so close to Christmas are a very big challenge,” said piste manager Horst Demetz.

Safety is the top priority When it comes to safety, the organizers leave nothing to chance. “The OK Val Gardena recently reached an agreement together with the OK Alta Badia and the Aiut Alpin. This stipulates that a rescue helicopter will be reserved for the event during the World Cup races in Val Gardena and Alta Badia - without the country's air rescue service being affected or the race having to be stopped. We want to be as prepared as possible for all eventualities,” says Senoner.

Intensive race preparation awaits the organizing committee in the coming months before snow-making on the race track begins in November.
