Nine South Tyroleans are taking part in the Alpine Ski World Championships in Schladming

The international regulations stipulate that Italy can name a maximum of 24 athletes in total, four per race. Only five athletes are allowed to start in the SuperG this year, because in this discipline Christof Innerhofer from Puster is the defending champion and therefore a fixed starter.

To qualify, athletes had to have at least one top 8 result or two top 10 results in the World Cup. There was also the possibility that the race directors, with the approval of the president, were allowed to nominate athletes who could not meet these criteria.

A total of 14 men and 10 women were drafted. Peter Fill, Werner Heel, Christof Innerhofer, Siegmar Klotz, Manfred Mölgg, Dominik Paris, Patrick Thaler, Massimiliano Blardone, Cristian Deville, Stefano Gross, Matteo Marsaglia, Roberto Nani, Giuliano Razzoli and Davide Simoncelli are in the men's World Cup squad.

For the women, however, Denise Karbon, Manuela Mölgg, Michela Azzola, Chiara Costazza, Elena Curtoni, Irene Curtoni, Elena Fanchini, Nadia Fanchini, Sofia Goggia and Daniela Merighetti are starting.

The exclusion of Lisa Agerer came as a bit of a surprise. So only two South Tyroleans remain in the women's World Cup squad, because after Hanna Schnarf's injury and the end of Lucia Recchia's career, Verena Stuffer and Nicole Gius also failed to qualify.

The World Cup team will be officially presented in Mialand on Wednesday, January 30th.
