Neureuther imitates his father – South Tyroleans disappoint

Not Henrik Kristoffersen, not Marcel Hirscher, but Felix Neureuther: After a mixed season so far with only two podium finishes (2nd and 3rd in Val d'Isère), Bayer's situation broke in Japan. At the same time, a breath of fresh air came into the otherwise somewhat monotonous slalom competition: the previous seven races were all characterized by the duel between the giants, i.e. Marcel Hirscher (won once) and Henrik Kristoffersen (won six times). But while the Norwegian didn't feel comfortable on the Japanese slope from the start and finished the race in seventh place, Hirscher's performance was over after just a few goals in the first round. This set the stage for an exciting duel at the top - and that's what the spectators in Japan really got. In the second round there were all sorts of position changes, which is why the race was exciting until the end. In the end, Neureuther, who finished fifth in the first run, narrowly prevailed over Andre Myhrer by five hundredths of a second, while the young Austrian Marco Schwarz achieved his second bronze finish of this year's season. Half-time leader Fritz Dopfer fell back to fourth place.

Azure drivers have a hard time On Saturday there were successes everywhere in the giant slalom for the “Azzurri”, but on Sunday good Italian results were few and far between. Stefano Gross was the 11th best "Azzurro", Patrick Thaler, in sixth place in the first round and therefore on a good path, lost ground in his second run and made too many mistakes, which is why he ultimately fell back to 18th place. Manfred Mölgg, on the other hand, couldn't get going in the slalom and was eliminated between the narrow gates for the fifth time this season. This time, after finishing 18th in the first round, the man from Enneberg had to give up the second race. Simon Maurberger and Riccardo Tonetti, on the other hand, did not make it to the finish line in the first round.
