Nicol Delago: “I can’t let myself get nervous”

2nd place in the Super-G in Lake Louise, 2nd place in the downhill in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee: Nicol Delago (26) impressively proved in the past World Cup season that she has caught up with the world's best. But there were also downsides, like the races in Bansko or Garmisch-Partenkirchen, in which Delago didn't get up to speed. That's why the older of the two Delago sisters wants to work on her consistency in preparation for the upcoming World Cup tour. Honing in on consistency “The depths of last season showed me what was still lacking,” Delago is quoted by the winter sports association FISI on its website: “I want to ski more consistently and I'm working hard on that, but also with the necessary composure.” In fact, Delago presented himself in the last winter either top or flop. The two podium places are offset by four failures (including one in the combined downhill) and three placements outside the points. Mediocrity - i.e. a place in the top 20 - was rare for Delago, namely only three times. In Altenmarkt-Zauchensee, Delago was second on the downhill podium.

And so she's probably not entirely wrong when she says: “I can't let myself be made nervous. Not even when I find myself in unfamiliar situations that I'm not yet familiar with." To ensure that this shortcoming is remedied and Delago becomes a consistent top rider, she works hard on her goal even during the non-competition period: "That's very important, but I also always want to maintain joy. I want to be in top shape at the start of the season.”

Delago is currently on the Stelvio Pass – together with her sister Nadia. The Azzurri national team has been able to move around on snow there for a few days. From Sunday onwards, the ski aces will also have company from the snowboarders ( SportNews has reported ).
