Devastating diagnoses for two French skiers

Competing in a World Cup in your own country is every athlete’s dream. The atmosphere, the scenery, the prestige that exists at such an event cannot be compared to a normal World Cup race. However, if you get injured so badly just a month before the event begins that it is impossible to take part, then it borders on a nightmare.

That's exactly what happened to the French star athletes Victor Muffat-Jeandet and Matthieu Bailet. The two ski aces have been injured in the past few days and now have to undergo operations. The season is over for both of them.

Bailet tore his cruciate ligament Bailet, who is one of the up-and-coming athletes in the French speed team and celebrated his first podium last year, had a brutal fall in Bormio and had to be transported away by helicopter. Now he got the final diagnosis. “The verdict is there and it is irrevocable. I tore the cruciate ligament in my left knee,” the 26-year-old wrote on social media.

“I don't hide the fact that the setback is very difficult to cope with, especially this season with the World Cup in France. This is the biggest injury of my career," says Bailet, whose sting runs deep: "I have to digest this now and have no choice, it's the law of top-class sport, you know the rules. The hardest part begins now and I will face it as always.”

Muffat-Jeandet has already accepted it The season is also over for Victor Muffat-Jeandet. The veteran had a serious fall in Adelboden and then reported from his hospital bed with a scary picture. Now his final diagnosis is available: The cruciate ligament and tibia remained intact “as if by a miracle,” wrote Muffat-Jeandet. But an operation is still required to repair an injury to the meniscus and lateral ligament.

“I expected worse,” said the 11-time podium finisher. Nevertheless, his season has now ended early and his World Cup dream has shattered. “I don’t know why fate sent me this test, but I’ve already accepted it,” said the technology specialist combatively.
