Odermatt and Casse amaze the ski world in Cortina

Odermatt crushed his meniscus on the first Kitzbühel descent last week. He then had to miss the Hahnenkamm downhill run on Saturday and the Schladming giant slalom on Wednesday due to injury. For a long time it was not clear whether he would be able to take part in Cortina again this weekend. On Saturday he impressively demonstrated what Odermatt is made of. The 25-year-old rode the Olimpia delle Tofane like he was on rails and grabbed his seventh win of the season.

As a result, Odermatt extended his lead in the Super-G and overall World Cup to Aleksander Aamodt Kilde. The Norwegian also came closest to him on Saturday and ended up in second place, 35 hundredths behind. Incidentally, this was the first time in 33 years that the men's ski world cup was hosted in Cortina.

Casse back on the podium Mattia Casse provided a little surprise. The Italian, who had already come third in the downhill twice this year, showed off on the super-G course, which turned heavily at times, and took third place, his first podium place in this discipline. The 32-year-old is in the form of his life this year, having celebrated all three podium finishes in this World Cup season. Casse was only half a second slower than Odermatt on Saturday.

Things didn't go as planned for Dominik Paris at all. The man from Ultimo couldn't cope with the course and finished the race in 42nd place. Christof Innerhofer was on his way to a top ten place. But in the final section, the Pusterer fell after a jump and landed in the safety net. However, Innerhofer was able to get up again afterwards and is unlikely to have been seriously injured. The third South Tyrolean, Florian Schieder, was also eliminated.

The next opportunity will be on Sunday (10.15:XNUMX a.m.), when another Super-G is on the program in Cortina.
