Total ÖSV euphoria in the snow chaos of Kvitfjell

Initially, the women faced poor weather conditions on the third day of racing in Kvitfjell (Norway). Snowfall and dark clouds demanded everything from the speed specialists and didn't allow for top times. However, as the race progressed, the rides got better and better as the route and visibility improved rapidly. Three runners from Austria benefited from this. Nina Ortlieb (1.29,25:0,12 minutes) surprisingly won ahead of Stephanie Venier (+0,38 seconds) and Franziska Gritsch (+XNUMX).

So on Sunday two Super-G races took place in Kvitfjell. One was contested by the athletes with the early start numbers, including the top athletes of this season. The other started when the track suddenly became much faster around number 23. You could see disbelieving amazement on the face of Sofia Goggia, who had been waiting in the leader's chair for the award ceremony up until this point. Suddenly the later runners appeared to have leads of over 1,5 seconds after the first section.

One after the other, Nina Ortlieb, Stephanie Venier and Franziska Gritsch set faster times than the Azzurra and ultimately unfortunately pushed her off the podium (+0,69). Ortlieb won her second World Cup race, having last been successful three years ago in La Thuile, also in the Super G. The result was also a triple victory for the Austrians, who finally left their speed worries behind them in Kvitfjell. It was the first result of this kind for the ÖSV women in 17 years.

In the chaos of Kvitfjell, the top athletes like Ragnhild Mowinckel (+1,20/15th place), Lara Gut-Behrami (+1,50/20th place) and Federica Brignone (+1,54/21st place) stayed on Route. Mikaela Shiffrin landed in 7th place (+0,98). Of this group, Elena Curtoni coped best with the difficult conditions. In 12th place, she still collected important points in terms of the discipline rankings and left all of her competitors behind in the fight for the Super-G ball.

Delago misses the opportunity From a South Tyrolean perspective, these changing conditions gave hope, as Nicol Delago only started the race with start number 35. But the worm seems to be deep within the Val Gardena woman. She only finished 26th (+1,67). Her sister Nadia decided not to take part at short notice.
