Austrian Festival in Andorra

For a long time, the Swiss Corinne Suter with start number 1 led the classification. Her time was only beaten by Viktoria Rebensburg (start number 12). The giant slalom specialist, who was never better than fifth in the downhill this winter, put her foot on the accelerator, especially in the lower part of the course.

When everything pointed to Rebensburg's first downhill victory, Mirjam Puchner (start number 18 of 21 runners) beat her time. In the meantime, the Austrian was leading the German by half a second. In the end, Puchner saved a lead of three hundredths of a second at the finish. Suter, the silver medalist from Åre (downhill), took her second podium place in the World Cup with third place.

Fanchini best “Azzurra” Nadia Fanchini came fourth as the best “Azzurra”. Sofia Goggia, who came first and second in the previous World Cup downhills after her comeback, took sixth place on Wednesday.

Nicol Delago pushed hard on the accelerator, especially in the upper part of the track. By the third split, the woman from Val Gardena was almost half a second ahead of Rebensburg, who had been leading until then. In the winding final section she ultimately lost some time and ended up in seventh place. Delago achieved her third top ten result of this World Cup season. Schmidhofer grabs the downhill crystal ball Nicole Schmidhofer finished eleventh to win the small crystal ball. Schmidhofer will be the successor to Renate Götschl, who was the last Austrian to win the downhill ball in the 2006/2007 season. Schmidhofer was already 90 points ahead of her teammate Ramona Siebenhofer before the race (made a serious mistake and finished 19th) and “only” had to finish in the top 15 to win the Downhill World Cup.

On Thursday (10.30 a.m.) the Super-G is on the program for the women at the World Cup final in Soldeu.

Austrian Festival in Andorra

The last women's downhill of the season was on the program in Soldeu (Andorra) on Wednesday. The victory went to Mirjam Puchner. An Austrian woman also grabbed the small crystal ball.
