Austria's ski legend Kahr rejects allegations of abuse

Cologne (SID) Austria's ski legend Karl Kahr, one of the most successful trainers in the country's history, has firmly denied serious allegations of abuse against him. This is reported by the Süddeutsche Zeitung. The SZ quotes a lawyer for the now 85-year-old. The allegations against Kahr were “all made up of nothing,” it says, and “not a single one of the incidents you mentioned” “ever took place.” The SZ reports on two athletes who are said to have submitted affidavits. Kahr and the Austrian ski hero Toni Sailer, who died in 2009, are accused of sexual abuse in three cases, the newspaper writes. These attacks are said to have occurred in the 1960s. When asked by SZ, the Austrian Ski Association (OSV) stated that it knew nothing about the allegations against Kahr. The allegations against Sailer, the first three-time Olympic champion in alpine ski racing in 1956 and one of the icons in Austria during his lifetime, are not new. In March 1974 he is said to have mistreated a 28-year-old prostitute on the sidelines of a World Cup slalom in Zakopane, Poland. Sailer was 38 years old at the time and ÖSV Alpine boss. The authorities' accusation: "emergency breeding", rape. This emerges from the files evaluated by the newspaper Der Standard, the research collective Dossier and the radio station Ö1.
