Olympic downhill: Dreßen in good spirits after the second training session

Pyeongchang (SID) The German ski racers led by Kitzbühel winner Thomas Dreßen are confident going into the Olympic downhill on Sunday (11.00 a.m. OZ/3.00 a.m. CET). “It suits me quite well,” said Dreßen after his ninth place in the second training session on Friday on the route that was slightly shortened due to wind. The “Jeongseon Downhill” has to be ridden “with a lot of feeling,” “I can do that quite well,” added Dreßen. Unfortunately, he wasn't the only one, the Mittenwalder added. This also became clear on Friday. He was 1 seconds short of South Tyrolean Christof Innerhofer's best time (18,97:0,70 minutes). The Norwegian Kjetil Jansrud (+0,01), for many experts the hottest gold contender, came second ahead of world champion Beat Feuz (Switzerland/+0,44). Dreßen expects a “tight story” in the race. During the second test run he felt “much more comfortable” and “the material worked significantly better”. He also saw a "really good improvement" in himself; here and there I chose the safety option and didn't take 100 percent risk. He has “a few other weapons up his sleeve” for the race. Andreas Sander (Ennepetal/+1,16) finished in an uninformative 16th place after two goal errors. He said he didn't adjust well to the somewhat changed snow conditions, which were less aggressive due to the warmer temperatures: "I just completely missed it and forgot that you have to work more." But “anything” can happen in the race. Josef Ferstl (Hammer/+2,12) said after finishing 34th that he "didn't get any drive", slalom runner Linus Straßer (Munich/+4,71) came in 68th. The final training takes place on Saturday. Dreßen is currently suffering from problems with his toes. Because, like most of his competitors, he wears ski boots that are too small (size 47,5), with shoe size 43, he freezes. "The problem is: the tighter the better, at least that's the case with ski boots," he said and laughed.
