Paris & Feuz: Of strokes of fate and legendary victories

Beat Feuz: His career was already on the brink Farmer's son Feuz comes from Schangnau in the Emmental valley. The trained bricklayer is in a relationship with the former Austrian racing runner and physiotherapist Katrin Triendl; the couple lives in Aldrans near Oberperfuss in Tyrol with their one and a half year old daughter Clea (born in June 2018).

Sporting biography: Feuz made his World Cup debut on December 10, 2006 in the super combined at the Reiteralm (33rd). He has already competed in the World Cup 169 times and has won 13 times so far, including ten downhills. At the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang in 2018, he won silver in the super-G and bronze in the downhill. He is the 2017 downhill world champion and won bronze in 2015.

Current series of successes in downhill: In the past 22 World Cup downhill races since November 2017, head pilot Feuz has been on the podium 18 times and has never been worse than eighth. He recently won the downhill ball twice in a row.

Kitzbühel past: Feuz traveled to Kitzbühel with his third downhill victory on the Lauberhorn in Wengen, where he is still waiting for his first complete success. In the downhill he was second three times, in 2016 behind Castelrotto's Peter Fill, in 2018 behind the German Thomas Dreßen and in 2019 behind Dominik Paris. In 2017 he came third in the Super-G and in 2012 he came second in the combination.

Cuts in life: In 2012, Feuz fought against Marcel Hirscher for the overall World Cup until the last race weekend in Schladming and was narrowly defeated. He missed the following season due to a long-term bacterial infection in his knee, which required many surgeries, blood transfusions and a long hospital stay. For a short time, the doctors even suggested a stiffening of the knee or amputation. After nine months, Feuz was back on skis for the first time in July 2013. Dominik Paris: From party animal to world-class downhill skier The son of a ski instructor dropped out of school as a young squire and worked as an assistant bricklayer in construction. The 30-year-old and his long-time girlfriend Kristina have been parents to little Niko since summer 2018. They still live in Ulten and converted Paris' grandparents' house into their own home.

Sporting biography: Paris has already competed in 197 World Cup races in his career, for the first time on December 19, 2008 in Val Gardena (54th in the Super-G). He won 18 races, including 14 downhills. He is still missing an Olympic medal from his collection; at the World Championships he was the downhill silver medalist in Schladming in 2013 and the Super-G world champion in Åre in 2019.

Current series of successes in downhill: Of the last ten downhill races, Paris has won six, finished second twice and eleventh twice. He has been in the top five in the Discipline World Cup since 2015, and last season he was second behind Feuz.

Kitzbühel past: Paris is the racer to beat in Kitzbühel. He won the Streif downhill in 2013, 2017 and 2019, as well as success in the Super-G in 2015. The Nordica pilot was also second in the downhill in 2015 and third in the Super-G in 2019.

Cuts in life: After poor skiing performance and drinking too much beer with friends, Paris worked as a shepherd on a Swiss mountain pasture for three months in 2007 as an 18-year-old. He was overweight, wanted to exercise and learned discipline. It was the summer when he got fitter and grew up. After that, things went up in terms of sport. In June 2013, his brother Rene, who had always supported him, died in a motorcycle accident.
