Paris & Co.: Baby boom in the Ski World Cup

Whether Dominik Paris from Ultimo, Riccardo Tonetti from Bolzano, superstar Marcel Hirscher, the Swiss Beat Feuz, the Austrian Marc Digruber or the German Andreas Sander, they all have one thing in common: the ski professionals are starting this season as new fathers for the first time.

Hirscher's secret While ski superstar Hirscher has not revealed his boy's name to this day and has declared this to be an absolute private zone, the Salzburg native's professional colleagues are a little more open about it. “Everyone has to decide that for themselves. I'm certainly not someone who will present my child offensively in the finish area. But I don’t hide it either, I’m a little more relaxed,” said the 31-year-old Swiss in Lake Louise. There, Hirscher's former World Cup rival wants to emulate the Austrian and win his first race as a father next weekend.

“Whether we win or not. It's nice to take part in the World Cup as a dad too. No problem. Now there are two girls at home who are excited,” said Feuz, who is in a relationship with the Austrian former racing runner Kathrin Triendl and whose daughter is currently growing up in Tyrol as “Triendl” and “Austrian”. Feuz is happy about the baby boom In any case, the current baby boom is good for Feuz. “Then at some point in the future we can have a nice international competition for Hirscher, Feuz, Paris, Sander, Digruber, and wherever else there were children.”

Baumann, himself the father of a daughter named Magdalena since 2016, sees it similarly. “I completely understand Marcel. He is a lot better known than me and children are an absolutely private matter, you should respect that,” said the Tyrolean. From the second child onwards, more at home Guay is once again proof that children don't slow you down and that you can still be highly successful even as a father of multiples. It wasn't until 2017, at the age of 35, that he became world champion in the Super-G and won silver behind Feuz in the downhill. “I was already 27 when I became a father for the first time. At first my wife did everything. But after my second child, I changed my ski preparation a bit and stayed at home a little more to help out,” reported Guay in Lake Louise.

Guay also believes that having children ultimately changes everything. “It puts life in perspective, of course for Marcel too. He has such a great career and he is an incredible winner. But a child tells you that skiing is ultimately fun, but a child is something very special.” Reichelt and Larissa Hofer take their time Hannes Reichelt is bucking the trend. The Salzburg veteran is already 38 years old, but fatherhood and the end of his career are not a big issue at the moment. “You just have to look for a young woman. Then you have a little more time for it,” joked Reichelt, who has been married to the former ski racer Larissa Hofer from Sulden since 2016.
