Patscheider second in Reinswald

After the first run, the downhill run, it didn't look like Bernhard Graf would win. On the shortened route, the man from Dornbirn only ended up in 1.22,52th place in 14:47,40 minutes. In the second round, the slalom, the man from Vorarlberg drove like he was unleashed and set the second fastest time in the Stangenwald in XNUMX seconds.

With a total time of 2.09,92:0,13 minutes and 0,04 seconds ahead of Hagen Patscheider, Graf, like two years ago, prevailed over the South Tyrolean. Back then, the Austrian was only 22 seconds faster. Bernhard Graf has won three medals at Junior World Championships in his career and the XNUMX-year-old won two gold and one bronze medal at the Universiade in Erzurum.

Hagen Patscheider's form curve is clearly pointing upwards. After a mixed start to the season, the 23-year-old from Grauner is getting better and better. Patscheider also didn't have an ideal run on the descent and only finished in 19th place. In the end, Patscheider had the fourth fastest time in the slalom. With second place in today's super combination, the man from Grauner celebrated his best result of the season and must have gained a lot of self-confidence for the next races.

Manuel Wieser came third. The 20-year-old from North Tyrol landed on the podium for the first time in the European Cup, after two top ten results in the second most important racing series. He was 0,19 seconds behind his teammate Graf. Wieser also ended up at the back of the field in the downhill (22nd place) and made it onto the podium with the third slalom time.

Last year's winner Andy Plank from Vipiteno had to settle for 16th place today. With Stefan Thanei from Burgeis, a third South Tyrolean also made it into the top 30. A total of 107 athletes took part in the downhill in today's race. 72 ski racers crossed the finish line in the slalom and were scored accordingly.

Claudio Ravetto, the head coach of the Italian national team, was in Reinswald today as an onlooker and won a total of six medals with the “Azzurri” at the World Cup in Garmisch. Today he watched his offspring closely.

The Sarn European Cup week will conclude tomorrow with the Super-G. The start is at 9.30 a.m.

To be honest, I had a really bad feeling during the slalom and never thought I would be first at the finish. The slalom slope is good for me, but the downhill run is not so good. I can be at the front of the Super-G tomorrow if everything goes well. I'm heading towards a fixed place, which gives me a lot of self-confidence.

I didn't feel bad during the descent and still opened up a big gap. I still have to analyze where I left the time. I did well in the slalom, even though I didn't think I could do it. I tried to attack and I succeeded. Like two years ago, I came second this year too, so you can say that the Plankenhorn suits me. Tomorrow in the Super-G I have what it takes to win, I will definitely give it my best.”

Like two years ago, the Austrian Bernhard Graf won the super combination in the Sarnen ski area. And just like in February 2009, the 22-year-old left Hagen Patscheider from Grauner behind him today. Another ÖSV athlete, Manuel Wieser, came third.
