Unlucky Reichelt: “Now I hate skiing again”

40-year-old Hannes Reichelt ended his season early after problems with his left knee. The Salzburger did not take part in the Alpine Ski World Cup in Saalbach-Hinterglemm after almost falling in training on Wednesday; he will undergo an MRI examination on Monday. The 2015 Super-G world champion doesn't want to decide for some time whether he will continue his career. Reichelt, who wanted to get back to the top after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament and tearing out the outer capsular ligament complex on his right knee in a fall on the Bormio downhill in December 2019, suspected this time of a bone bruise and a strain of the patellar tendon. He didn't believe that a ligament had broken. The risk is too great “It's not bad, but not good enough for skiing. I can't make clever left turns. There wasn’t as much missing as there was in November.” He won't make the future decision in an overheated manner, but will take his time. “In the last few weeks I've loved the sport again because it's been going really well. I loved him too until the first training session here, but now I hate him again because I just hate it so much.”
