Peter Fill: “I’m not giving up the Saslong”

The Saslong is not a good place for local athletes, as becomes clear when looking at the results. Of the current South Tyrolean starters, only Werner Heel was given the honor of winning a race in Val Gardena - and that was the Super-G in 2008. Dominik Paris, also in the Super-G, came second in 2014. Other things happened the local ski champions are mostly difficult.

Also Peter Fill: In 2015 he achieved his best result to date with fourth place in the downhill, otherwise he only finished in the top 10 two other times - in the downhill in 2013 and yesterday in the Super-G. The last-mentioned performance is particularly highly valued: Despite difficult conditions, he achieved a respectable eighth place. “I'm really happy, I took a lot of risks and it worked out,” explained the Castelrotto native after the race. Today he wants to improve on the descent and is fighting: “Unfortunately, up to now I have always had a little more difficulty on the Saslong than elsewhere. But I am convinced that I can be quick here too if everything fits. I'm definitely not giving up on this slope and will fight to be really fast here at some point. After all, this race, as my home race, has great meaning for me.”

Fill takes part in the descent with start number 9, Dominik Paris comes with the 19, while Christof Innerhofer wears the 26. Only at 57 does it come the turn of Werner Heel, who has been strong in training. The race will be opened by Hannes Reichelt at 12.15 p.m.
